Tottenham without Son Heung-min makes it two in a row in UEL...2-1 win over Ferencvarosi

English professional soccer club Tottenham Hotspur won its second straight UEFA Europa League (UEL) match as captain Son Heung-min continues his recovery from a thigh injury.

Tottenham defeated Ferencvarosi (Hungary) 2-1 away from home in the second leg of the 2024-2025 UEL League Phase at the Gruppama Arena in Budapest, Hungary, on Thursday (June 4).

Tottenham, who played in the Champions League (UCL) in the 2022-2023 season, missed out on European competition last season and will be looking to win the UEL for the first time in four seasons after the 2020-2021 campaign.

After a 3-0 win over Garabagh (Azerbaijan) in the first leg of the league phase, Spurs have won two consecutive UEL matches and are third in the 36-team field.

They are level on six points with first-place Lazio (Italy) and second-place Lyon (France), but trailing on goal difference.

Son Heung-min was substituted after about 71 minutes against Garbach due to thigh pain and has since been ruled out of the regular season match against Manchester United and tonight's UEL match.

Tottenham manager Anzhi Postecoglou said Son, who injured his hamstring (muscle behind the thigh), is not with the traveling squad and is focusing on his recovery in London.

Timo Werner started at left winger, where Son usually plays.

Werner was joined in attack by 2005 graduate Will Lankshire and 2007 graduate Mikey Moore, 파워볼실시간 while 2006 graduate Lucas Verbal and Archie Gray started in the midfield and center back positions, respectively.

Spurs took the lead in the 23rd minute on a goal by Pape Sarr.

Moore flicked the ball into the box and a scramble ensued as Lancashire and Beribal tangled with the Ferencvarosi defense, with Sarr finishing the loose ball with his right foot in front of the right post.

In the 41st minute, Brennan Johnson added to Spurs' lead with a left-footed strike from the penalty area in front of the goal.

Johnson has now found the back of the net in five consecutive games.

Tottenham conceded a late goal through Ferencvarosi's Berger Bernabasic just before the end of the match, but the defense held on to win the game.

Young defender Lee Han-beom's club Mittwilan (Denmark) won 2-0 against Maccabi Tel Aviv (Israel).

Lee was called up by national team coach Hong Myung-bo and was named in the starting lineup but watched from the bench.

Mittwilan secured the victory thanks to a 39th-minute goal from Franculinho and a 44th-minute goal from Edward Chilupia.

With four points from one win and one draw in the league phase, Mitwilan are ninth overall.

Meanwhile, United battled to a hard-fought 3-3 draw against Porto (Portugal) after being reduced to a man down following the sending off of Vurne Fernandes, thanks to a theatrical goal from Harry Maguire in stoppage time.

United looked to be on course for an easy win with goals from Marcus Rashford in the seventh minute and Rasmus Höjlund in the 20th minute.

However, they conceded a 27th-minute equalizer to Pepe, a 34th-minute equalizer to Samuel Omorodion, and a fifth-minute winner in stoppage time.

To add insult to injury, Fernandes was sent off in the 36th minute for accumulating cautions.

In second-half stoppage time, United equalized with a header from Maguire off a corner kick to avoid defeat.

United remain in 21st place in the UEL League Phase with two points from two draws.

Starting this season, the UEL will be the same as the Champions League (UCL), with 36 teams competing in the league phase with eight matches (four home and four away).

The top 1-8 teams will qualify directly to the round of 16, while the 9-24 teams will play a playoff with the winners joining the round of 16.
